Winter Rose vs Old Collegians

Winter Rose smashed theĀ  Super 12 ” Rookie” Old Collegians 56-10 in a Round 3 match of the Super 12 Club Rugby tournament, a game played in Mdantsane, East London. Relatively perfect conditions for rugby with a slight breeze blowing the crowds were there to support their local team.

Winter Rose dominated the game from the first whistle and raced to six tries in the first half. Old Collegians just could not get going, they lack experience in their critical positions like their prop and lock played in the hands of the host. Winter Rose played a fast paced match and easily penetrated the shell-shocked Old Collegians backline, and they(Old Collegians) went into break trailing behind 32-3.

The second was much closer. Still the home team’s dominance showed as they ran in a further 4 tries against the visitors solitary try. Winter Rose’s fullback Michael Makase scored a hatrick of tries and deservedly walk away with the man of the match award.

This is Old Collegians third loss in this tournament, can they still make it? On the other hand with Winter Rose, having lost their first against EL Police 20-10, they came back with a big win in their second match. This win takes them to 4th place in the Log and marks as the biggest win in the tournament thus far. It is however falling 4points short of the biggest win in the Super 12, by PE Police in last year’s tournament where they buttered King Bumbies 60-0.

There are still more anticipated hits in the tournament, keep watching.

  1. Well done to Winter Rose, I’m one of the players who played in that match on saturday. We made no mistake saturday, our coach told us to be aggressive as much as we can,we must not respect them.We did what our coach told us.
