Harlequins through to semis

PE Harlequins lock Sinakho Caga charging forward

PE Harlequins made it to the semifinals of the Eastern Cape super 12 Rugby competition when they beat Berlin Tigers 31-6 at Adcock Stadium on Saturday.

Both teams started off very slowly because of the wet conditions as a result the game was very physical in the opening stages.

But Harlequins handled the conditions better as they kept the ball closer to their forwards and they were rewarded when their hardworking lock Sinakho Caga bagged over for his first try of the campaign. Unfortunately fullback Monier Jacobs missed the conversion for a 5-0 lead for the home side.

However the visitors put together some phases into Harlequins and a high tackle to their left wing resulted in a penalty that was kicked over by flyhalf Dumile Nyameko to narrow Harlequins lead to two points at 5-3.

Then it was one way traffic from there with Harlequins scoring two converted tries to their wing Mario Samuels and outside centre Dylan Beckett to take a comfortable 19-3 lead into the break.

Immidiately after the break Harlequins flyhalf sliced through Tigers defense to score untouched under the poles. Jacobs converted to take his side to a 26-3 lead.

Tigers bench managed to change things around as the visitors managed to put hosts under pressure when they kept the ball im hand but handling errors cost them at critical moments. This pressure was rewarded when flyhalf Nyameko popped over his second penalty to narrow the big gap to 26-6.

Harlequins wrapped up the match in the last 5min when tighthead prop Andre Jephta scored in the corner. Jacobs missed the conversion for the final score of 31-6.

Harlequins centre Chezlin Van Wyk was named man of the match after yet another stellar performance from him.

Harlequins will now take on Park in the semifinals next Saturday at Londt Park.
