Ncerha suprise Park

Ncerha Leopards scrumhalf Kwanele Mbete feeds his backline

Border side Ncerha Leopards registered an impressive away win on Saturday when they beat Park 28-27 in Port Elizabeth.

The side from Ncerha village in East London made their intentions clear earlier on when they took the game to the host and were unlucky not to register points when their speedy left wing Lukho Jongizulu was stopped  just Meyers before the whitewash.

That spurred the home side on as they put together a solid phase attack led by their big forwards resulting in a converted try by their hardworking flanker Bathandwa Cafu. But Ncerha leveled immediately with their own converted try by the impressive Jongizulu.

Both teams scored converted tries through Park flyhalf Frantz Botha and Ncerha’s Jongizulu to take the score to 14-14 at the break.

Ncerha came back a different side in the second half and used their speedy backs against struggling Park forwards, and took the lead for the first time in the match when hooker Lwando Maxeke scored under the poles for a 14-21 lead. However, Park responded with two quick tries and a drop goal  by Botha.

With about a minute and half to go, and a score sitting at 27-21 to the host, Ncerha put together a concerted attack with resulted in a try by substitute Sikhokele Buhlungu to register a narrow 27-28 win against Park.
